Ruth Openshaw opened Honeycliff Court in the spring of 2017 in a narrow Victorian-era building on Fort Street in Victoria, BC. She had spent the previous decade as a buyer for a mid-sized department chain, and what she kept noticing was how little time anyone had to actually look at things. Decisions were made from PDFs and margin sheets. She wanted a shop where the opposite was true. Where a piece of French linen or a hand-thrown ceramic bowl could be held, turned over, and considered properly before anyone reached for a wallet.
